Temasek Trust’s Catalytic Capital for Climate and Health leads Equatic’s US$11.6 million Series A financing to scale marine carbon removal and green hydrogen production

12 Aug 2025

  • Temasek Trust’s Catalytic Capital for Climate and Health (C3H) leads a US$11.6 million Series A round in Equatic, with Kibo Invest as co-lead. The round also saw participation from a consortium of global investors.
  • The investment will support the engineering scale-up and commercialisation of Equatic’s seawater electrolysis technology to advance permanent, durable atmospheric carbon removal alongside green hydrogen production, delivering tangible impact and commercial benefit.
  • C3H’s investment builds on Equatic’s longstanding partnership with the Temasek Trust ecosystem: from winning Temasek Foundation’s The Liveability Challenge in 2021 with its early-stage solution, to scaling its impact today through C3H.

Singapore, 12 August 2025 — Catalytic Capital for Climate and Health (C3H), a catalytic vehicle of Temasek Trust, has successfully led the first close of Equatic’s US$11.6 million Series A round, exceeding its US$10 million target. Equatic’s patented seawater electrolysis process accelerates the ocean’s ability to absorb and permanently store carbon at scale, while simultaneously producing carbon-negative hydrogen.

Kibo Invest, a Singapore-based private investment office with a focus on climate technology, is a co-lead in the round. Other participants include Stacey Nicholas, the Aga Khan Foundation, Adam McKay, and Lee Cooper. Equatic has also been catalytically supported, since its inception, by Grantham Neglected Climate Opportunities.

Tackling Climate Change at Scale with Bold Dual-Product Innovation

Equatic’s proprietary technology removes carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and produces green hydrogen in a single, scalable process. The technology has been validated through pilots in Los Angeles and Singapore, with strong offtake interest.

Equatic has also adopted an ISO-14064 standard for Monitoring, Reporting, and Verification (MRV), validated by two leading carbon removal registries — Isometric and Puro.earth — making it one of the only marine companies able to issue high-quality carbon dioxide removal (CDR) credits under both registries, with full transparency and auditability.

The Series A financing will support the ongoing engineering of Equatic’s first 100-kilotonne CDR commercial facility, alongside further commercialisation, manufacturing, and technological development.

“Equatic’s technology and approach exemplify the type of bold and scalable innovation that aligns with C3H’s mandate. We are delighted to support Equatic’s goal in advancing promising climate mitigation solutions that offer permanent, durable carbon removal with green hydrogen production for scalable, tangible impact and commercial benefit,” said Ryan Tan, Head, C3H

“Equatic represents an exciting opportunity to scale deep-tech innovation that addresses two critical needs: decarbonisation and clean energy. As an investor focused on climate solutions, we are proud to partner with C3H and Equatic to help bring this breakthrough technology to commercial scale,” said James Marshall, CEO, Kibo Invest.

From Philanthropic Support to Catalytic Investment

Equatic’s journey has been shaped by the support of multiple mission-aligned partners across sectors.

In 2021, the company — formerly known as SeaChange — won The Liveability Challenge, the global crowdsourcing platform for sustainability solutions presented by Temasek Foundation, and was awarded S$1 million in catalytic funding. It piloted its carbon removal technology in Singapore in collaboration with national water agency PUB.

In September 2024, Equatic was named a finalist for The Earthshot Prize (TEP) — a global challenge that spotlights and supports innovative solutions to repair the planet. Temasek Trust is a Founding Partner of TEP.

C3H’s investment marks the next chapter in Equatic’s growth, building on its longstanding partnership with the Temasek Trust ecosystem: from winning Temasek Foundation’s The Liveability Challenge in 2021 with its early-stage solution to scaling its impact today through C3H.

“We are deeply grateful to all our investors and partners for their support of Equatic. This financing catalyses Equatic’s mission to deliver cost-effective and durable carbon removal at scale,” said Gaurav N. Sant, Founder and Chief Technology Officer, Equatic. “The Temasek Trust ecosystem has been a foundational partner to Equatic, from early-stage philanthropic backing from Temasek Foundation to catalytic investment through C3H. We are excited to accelerate our journey with partners who share our thesis that technology translation and innovation is fundamental to mitigate worsening climate change, quickly and at scale.”

Momentum for Scalable Climate Solutions

Equatic’s Series A financing reflects rising momentum for scalable climate mitigation solutions, fuelled by converging factors like science-driven innovation and public-private-philanthropic partnerships. C3H is dedicated to backing early-stage innovators like Equatic — in the areas of climate, health, and their intersection — to fast-track the transition to a low-carbon future.
