Temasek Life Sciences Laboratory (TLL) — part of the Temasek Trust ecosystem — has released its latest annual report, which looks back on the research institute’s progress in the past two decades.
The report also highlights case studies such as TLL’s rice research programme, efforts to domesticate wild Jatropha plants that could soon revolutionise the bio-energy market, and projects in precision agriculture and urban farming.
In 2022, TLL celebrated 20 years of being on the frontier of scientific research in Singapore, furthering biological discovery and the development of solutions with big societal impact. Now in its impact-driven phase, the non-profit organisation is working to deliver impact through partnerships for the benefit of local, regional, and global communities.
Key highlights since its inception include:
- S$248 million worth of grants awarded
- 257 PhD students trained and graduated
- 1,325 scientific papers contributed by TLL in international peer-reviewed journals
- 182 discoveries made by TLL
- 1,628 interns trained
- S$660 million in total funds raised by companies incubating in TLL
During the past year, TLL received S$25 million in donations from the philanthropic endowment of Temasek Trust, aimed at the advancement of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM).
The research institute aims to continue investing, innovating, and investing to improve lives through science — for Planet, People, Peace, and Progress.
